AKBW KI-Stammtisch: How Many Agents Does an Architecture Firm Need
I was on the panel at the second KI-Stammtisch of the Chamber of Architects Baden-Württemberg in Stuttgart, discussing AI agents in architecture practice.
On July 13, 2026, the second KI-Stammtisch of the Chamber of Architects Baden-Württemberg took place at the Haus der Architektinnen und Architekten in Stuttgart, titled "How Many Agents Does an Architecture Firm Need". I was on the panel alongside colleagues from andOFFICE, asp Architekten, ERNST² Architekten, KEKS Studio, Partner ag, and the Institute for Lightweight Structures at the University of Stuttgart.
The evening centered on the difference between AI apps, which react to active input, and AI agents, which can pursue tasks and connect applications autonomously within a defined framework. The practical examples ranged from automated email handling to compiling reference projects for public tenders and searching for reusable building components. Open source tools like OpenWebUI and n8n came up repeatedly as a low-barrier entry point.
In my own contribution, I showed how OpenWebUI can serve as a central interface for AI in the office, while n8n runs automations in the background, such as a construction diary via WhatsApp or automatically evaluating tender platforms. The consensus of the evening: start small, gather experience, and never accept AI results without checking them. Professional responsibility stays with the human.
